Meherpur, Bangladesh | 15 June 2026

To mark World Environment Day 2026, Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha organized a tree protection and environmental awareness campaign in Meherpur under the theme:

“Advancing a Just Energy Transition for a Protected Nature and a Livable Future.”

As part of the initiative, volunteers removed harmful plastic bags, polythene, and other waste materials from the bases of more than 500 roadside trees along the Meherpur–Chuadanga Highway. The campaign aimed to promote environmental conservation and encourage the public not to dump plastic or other harmful waste around trees.

Organizers explained that plastic waste accumulated around tree bases restricts the flow of air and water into the soil, hampers healthy root growth, and negatively affects both tree health and the surrounding environment. The cleanup campaign was designed to protect roadside trees while raising awareness about responsible waste disposal.

The environmental campaign brought together organizational leaders, teachers, social workers, and local political representatives. During the event, participants emphasized that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility that requires collective action. They called on citizens to actively participate in maintaining a clean and green environment and to adopt environmentally responsible practices in their daily lives.

The campaign was implemented with support from JET NET-BD Campaign, Meherpur, which joined hands with the organizers to promote environmental sustainability.

Speakers noted that regular cleanup activities, combined with increased public awareness, can play a significant role in preserving nature and creating a healthier, more livable planet for future generations. They urged people from all walks of life to contribute to environmental protection by avoiding plastic pollution and supporting community-based conservation initiatives.

Meherpur, 15 June 2026: In celebration of World Environment Day 2026, Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha organized a large-scale environmental awareness campaign under the theme:

“Advancing a Just Energy Transition for a Protected Nature and a Livable Future.”

As part of the observance, volunteers removed harmful plastic waste and other litter from the bases of more than 500 roadside trees along the Meherpur–Chuadanga Highway. The initiative aimed to raise public awareness about environmental conservation and encourage citizens to refrain from dumping plastic and other waste around trees.

The organizers explained that plastic waste trapped around tree bases restricts water and air circulation, hinders healthy root development, and contributes to environmental pollution. By cleaning the affected areas, the campaign sought to improve the health of roadside trees while promoting responsible waste disposal practices.

The environmental awareness campaign brought together organizational leaders, teachers, social activists, and local political representatives. During the program, speakers emphasized that protecting the environment requires collective action and active participation from every section of society. They encouraged citizens to adopt environmentally friendly habits and work together to create cleaner and greener communities.

The campaign was supported by the JET NET-BD Campaign, Meherpur, which collaborated in implementing the tree-cleaning initiative.

Speakers concluded that regular environmental cleanup activities, combined with greater public awareness, are essential for protecting nature and ensuring a healthy, sustainable, and livable planet for future generations. They urged people from all walks of life to play an active role in preserving the environment and safeguarding natural resources.
