An NGO Coordination Meeting was held in Meherpur Sadar Upazila under the chairmanship of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO).

During the meeting, the ongoing activities of NGOs operating in Meherpur Sadar were discussed in detail. Participants shared their experiences and outlined future plans to strengthen coordination, transparency, and collaboration among development organizations working at the grassroots level.

The session emphasized the importance of joint efforts between government and non-government organizations to ensure sustainable development across the upazila.

With the slogan “Let’s Build a Green Bangladesh Through Planned Afforestation,” a Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair 2025 were inaugurated in Meherpur.

On Sunday morning, the event began with a colorful rally organized by the District Administration and the District Forest Department. The rally started from the Meherpur District Shilpakala Academy, paraded through the main streets of the city, and concluded at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.

Following the rally, Ms. Sifat Mehnaz, Deputy Commissioner of Meherpur, formally inaugurated the Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair by cutting the ribbon.

After the inauguration, the Deputy Commissioner, along with officials from various departments, visited the tree fair stalls and encouraged citizens to plant more trees for environmental conservation. Later, a discussion meeting was held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.

The discussion was presided over by Mr. Md. Rezaul Alam, Divisional Forest Officer, Social Forestry Division, Kushtia, with Ms. Sifat Mehnaz, Deputy Commissioner of Meherpur, as the Chief Guest.

Among others present were Mr. Tarikul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Abdul Karim, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle), Mr. S.T. Hamim Haider, District Forest Officer, Meherpur, Mr. Monirul Huda, BRAC Officer, and Mr. Moin-Ul-Alam, Executive Director of Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha.

Speakers highlighted the vital importance of tree plantation for ecological balance, climate resilience, and sustainable living, urging all citizens to contribute to building a greener and healthier Bangladesh.

 On behalf of Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha, a banner was presented to the Amjhupi Union Parishad to promote social awareness on the importance of obtaining birth certificates.

The initiative aims to encourage citizens, especially parents and guardians, to ensure timely birth registration for their children — an essential step in securing legal identity, access to education, healthcare, and various government services.

Through this awareness campaign, Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha continues its commitment to advancing community awareness, strengthening social responsibility, and supporting the government’s efforts in achieving 100% birth registration coverage.

An exchange meeting titled “The Role of NGOs in Grassroots Development in Meherpur District” was held under the chairmanship of Ms. Sifat Mehnaz, Deputy Commissioner of Meherpur.

The event was graced by Mr. Monir Haydar, Special Assistant (Consensus) to the Honorable Chief Adviser, with the rank of Senior Secretary, who attended as the Chief Guest.

Speakers at the meeting discussed the significant contributions of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in promoting rural development, women’s empowerment, poverty reduction, and social awareness at the grassroots level.

The Chief Guest emphasized the importance of collaboration between government agencies and NGOs to achieve sustainable development goals and ensure inclusive growth in every sector of society.

The meeting reflected the shared commitment of the Meherpur District Administration and local NGOs to work together for the socio-economic progress of the people of Meherpur.

A discussion meeting titled “The Role of Mothers in Preventing Child Marriage” was organized by Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha, Meherpur, with the participation of parents, school students, and community members.

The event was presided over by Mr. Munshi Jahangir Jinnat, Chairman of Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha, and attended by Mr. Moin-Ul-Alam, Executive Director of the organization.

Speakers at the session discussed the harmful effects of child marriage, its negative impact on society, and the crucial role of parents—especially mothers—in ensuring a secure and bright future for their children. Topics included the importance of building positive parent-child relationships, promoting education, and encouraging social change to end early marriage.

The discussion also highlighted the shared responsibility of families and communities in creating a safe, supportive, and progressive environment for children’s growth and development.

The event emphasized that preventing child marriage is essential for ensuring education, empowerment, and the overall well-being of girls. Speakers discussed the long-term negative impacts of early marriage on health, education, and social stability, urging parents—especially mothers—to take an active stand against it.

During the session, participating mothers made a collective pledge not to arrange early marriages for their sons or daughters, demonstrating strong community commitment to ending this harmful practice.

Through such awareness activities, Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha continues its mission to promote social change, gender equality, and the protection of children’s rights in Meherpur and beyond.

On June 2, 2024, an income-generating training and rice distribution program for VWB beneficiaries was successfully organized at Ward No. 7, Jehala Union Parishad, Alamdanga Upazila.

The program was implemented by Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha with the support of the Department of Women Affairs under the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.

This initiative aimed to enhance the livelihood opportunities of VWB beneficiaries by providing them with practical training and food assistance.

On June 1, 2024, a team meeting was held with all staff members working under the “Income-Generating Project for VWB Beneficiaries” in Alamdanga Upazila.

The program was implemented by Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha, with support from the Department of Women Affairs under the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.

During the meeting, various challenges faced by the field staff were discussed, and important guidance and instructions were provided to ensure smooth project implementation.

The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Munshi Jahangir Zinnat, Honorable Chairman of Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha, Mr. Moin-ul-Alam, Chief Executive, Ms. Lubna Yasmin, Admin, and Ms. Farida Parvin, Project Coordinator.

On May 31, 2024, Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha organized a leaflet campaign to mark World No Tobacco Day 2024, with this year’s theme: “Protect children from tobacco industry interference.”

The campaign was held in the premises of the Meherpur Deputy Commissioner’s Office and Meherpur Sadar Upazila Parishad, emphasizing the demand for increased tax and price on tobacco in the upcoming national budget to improve public health.

Through this awareness drive, the organization aimed to raise public consciousness and encourage stronger policy measures to build a tobacco-free future for the next generation.

On May 30, 2024, an income-generating training and rice distribution program for VWB beneficiaries was successfully held at the hall room of Dowki Union Parishad in Alamdanga Upazila.

The event was organized with the support of the Department of Women Affairs under the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and implemented by Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha.

The initiative aimed to enhance the livelihood opportunities of VWB beneficiaries by providing practical training and essential food support.
