 On the occasion of International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week 2025, Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha (Subah Social Development Organization) organized a discussion meeting titled “Actions to Prevent Lead Pollution.”

With the slogan “Stop Lead Pollution, Boost Children’s Intelligence,” the event focused on what lead pollution is, how it continuously contaminates our environment, and its harmful effects on human health — especially on children’s physical and mental development. Participants also discussed practical steps that individuals and communities can take to prevent lead contamination.

The discussion further emphasized the importance of public awareness and explored ways to educate communities about the severe dangers of lead exposure and motivate them to take preventive actions.

The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Munshi Jahangir Zinnat, Honorable Chairman of Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha; Mr. Moin-ul-Alam, Executive Director; Ms. Lubna Yasmin, Admin Officer; and Ms. Fauzia Sultana, Project Coordinator.

 The Executive Director of Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha met with the Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Meherpur, to discuss the potential and initiatives for cultivating alternative crops to tobacco.

During the discussion, they highlighted the negative impacts of tobacco farming on soil fertility, the environment, and farmers’ livelihoods. Emphasis was placed on the importance of aligning with the government’s vision for a tobacco-free Bangladesh by 2040, with the agriculture department playing a key role in this mission.

The meeting proposed launching a pilot project under the guidance of the Department of Agricultural Extension to promote alternative crop cultivation. The initiative would involve local farmers and NGOs working collaboratively to implement sustainable agricultural practices.

Additionally, a request was made to the agricultural department to ensure timely availability of fertilizers according to farmers’ needs in Meherpur district.

Under the theme “Tobacco Cultivation on Agricultural Land — A Threat to Food Security,” a human chain and leaflet distribution program was held in Amjhupi, Meherpur to mark National No-Tobacco Day 2025.

The event was organized by Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha, in collaboration with the Bangladesh Anti-Tobacco Alliance and Work for a Better Bangladesh (WBB) Trust. The program took place on Sunday morning in front of the Amjhupi Union Parishad office under Meherpur Sadar Upazila.

Participants in the event urged the immediate finalization of the Tobacco Cultivation Control Policy to protect agriculture and ensure food security.

Following the human chain, a memorandum was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Meherpur, with a copy handed over to the Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Meherpur.

The event was attended by Mr. Moin-Ul-Alam, Executive Director of Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha, along with representatives and members of local organizations.

On the occasion of National No-Tobacco Day 2025, Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha organized a human chain and leaflet distribution program in Meherpur, in collaboration with the Bangladesh Anti-Tobacco Alliance and Work for a Better Bangladesh (WBB) Trust.

This year’s theme was:
“Tobacco Cultivation on Agricultural Land – A Threat to Food Security.”
The participants demanded the immediate finalization of the Tobacco Cultivation Control Policy to protect public health and ensure food safety.
